Don’t miss this all-day event on Saturday, April 4, 2020, when seven historians and three historical groups join Gazette665 to present an all-day celebration and commemoration of an important year in American History.

Speakers:

Gazette665 welcomes historians and researchers to Southern California for a conference focused on the last year of the American Civil War. Dr. Brian Matthew Jordan (author of a Pulitzer Prize runner-up) will share about Union veterans’ unending Civil War, and Keith Harris will focus on how Confederates remembered the conflict. Michael Oddenino will present about the Appomattox Campaign, and Phill Greenwalt (NPS Ranger) will speak about the Carolina Campaign and surrender at Bennett Place. David Dixon and Meg Groeling will address the social implications of the war, racially and internationally and through sports. Conference Coordinator Sarah Kay Bierle will share about Lincoln’s final days as they were observed from a distance by one of her ancestors.

The American Civil War – 1865: Turning Homeward

You’ll learn about final battles and campaigns, surrenders, Civil War veterans’ struggles, memory wars, Lincoln’s final days, the beginning of Reconstruction, and far-reaching effects of the conflict. This all-day event includes lunch, several historical displays, question and answer time with researchers, and book shopping opportunities. 

WHEN: Saturday, April 4, 2020  –  8:30am ’til 5:15pm, catered lunch is included

WHERE: The Temecula Conference Center, Temecula, California
(Temecula is a beautiful city about half-way between San Diego and Los Angeles – we’ve got a small city charm, quaint and historic Old Town, and rolling hills of vineyards…)
