However, five U.S. Presidents were in the military or military leadership during the World War I years, and we wanted to note their service, highlighting leadership (or rising leadership) during this semi-forgotten conflict. It’s April 2017, and 100 years since the United States entered World War I. America was a late-comer to the costly conflict; the war had been going on for almost three years before the U.S. joined. The war started with the assassination of an Austrian archduke and too many alliances.
